Our Technology Stack
Engineered for open standards, spatial resilience, and low-bandwidth accessibility.
Frilok is built upon battle-tested, sovereign, and open-source foundations. We deliberately select technologies that provide rock-solid reliability across diverse geographic conditions, eliminate proprietary platform lock-in, and respect user privacy.
Client & Cross-Platform Frameworks
Powers Frilok's unified codebase across Android, iOS, and Web. Flutter renders directly to native canvas via Skia/Impeller, ensuring buttery smooth 60fps animations even on low-cost handsets.
Real-Time Messaging & Protocols
Written in Erlang/OTP, ejabberd 26.07 serves as our fault-tolerant backbone for real-time presence, peer-to-peer negotiation, and instant messaging under extreme concurrency and flaky cellular connections. Conforms strictly to WebSocket (RFC 7395), SASL SCRAM-SHA-256 (RFC 7677) with encrypted password storage, In-Band Registration (XEP-0077), PEP Geolocation (XEP-0080), Corridor Routes (frilok:iq:routes), Reactive Catalogue (frilok:iq:catalogue), and 30s Keep-Alive (XEP-0199 Ping).
A robust, modular open-source client library for the XMPP protocol. Smack handles protocol negotiations, stanza management, stream management, and resilient automatic reconnection for Android clients.
An asynchronous, performant XMPP framework written in Objective-C and Swift. Utilized for deep iOS background stream handling, encryption, and push notification triggers.
Frilok strictly follows open standards defined by the XMPP Standards Foundation (XSF) and IETF RFCs (RFC 6120/6121). Our architecture implements essential mobile-optimized extensions:
- XEP-0198 (Stream Management): Prevents message loss and enables instant reconnection across unstable 2G/3G/4G cellular dead zones.
- XEP-0352 (Client State Indication): Suppresses non-critical traffic while backgrounded, dramatically reducing battery and data consumption on budget handsets.
- XEP-0313 (Message Archive Management - MAM): Synchronizes missed messages and conversation history when offline merchants reconnect.
- XEP-0080 & XEP-0060 (User Location & PubSub): Decentralized publication and subscription of geographic presence and live board alerts.
- XEP-0363 (HTTP File Upload): Out-of-band, standardized sharing of listing photos, receipts, and farm produce verification images.
- XEP-0357 (Push Notifications): Reliable, event-driven wakes for urgent peer communications without persistent battery drain.
- XEP-0384 (OMEMO Encryption): Multi-end cryptographic privacy for direct buyer-seller negotiations.
Geospatial & Mapstack
Community-led, open-source SDK providing GPU-accelerated vector map rendering. Allows Frilok to render responsive map layers, custom markers, and real-time transit routes without expensive per-tile commercial API costs.
High-performance open-source routing engine with dynamic costing for walking, cycling, transit, and driving. Essential for computing multi-point pickups and group journey matching.
Fast, multilingual geocoder based on OpenStreetMap data and powered by Elasticsearch. Powers instant address autocompletion and place searches for buyers and merchants.
Open map datasets under the Linux Foundation that furnish high-quality baseline layers for transportation, building geometry, administrative boundaries, and places of interest.
Datastore & Cryptographic Security
Frilok’s backend services, real-time message brokers, geospatial routing engines, and databases are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This provides high availability, auto-scaling compute, and low-latency packet delivery across regional edge nodes.
The world’s most advanced open-source relational database. Paired with PostGIS, it gives Frilok enterprise-grade transactional integrity, spatial indexing, and geo-clustering capabilities.
A free, automated, and open Certificate Authority provided by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). Let's Encrypt secures all transit and socket endpoints across the Frilok network via automated ACME certificates.
Internationalization (i18n) & Linguistic Architecture
Architected to empower diverse linguistic communities without bloating network transfer or stalling low-end devices. On the web, zero-dependency in-memory JSON dictionaries dynamically translate content across English, Hindi (हिन्दी), Bodo (बड़ो), Assamese (অসমীয়া), Bengali (বাংলা), Nepali (नेपाली), German (Deutsch), and French (Français). In the native app, Flutter’s intl and compile-time .arb bundles ensure regional script handling, number formatting, and right-to-left safety with near-zero runtime CPU overhead.
